The Dominican Republic defeated Taiwan (4-2) and Botswanna (2-0) in the Xth World Softball Championship held in East London, South Africa. These victories mean the national team classified for the quarter finals. The DR has won four games and lost three. The DR matches Checoslovakia today. The DR team is now ranked among the top eight teams in the world and won the right to participate in the World Softball League and the tournament held in the US and Canada, Luisín Mejía, president of the Dominican Softball Federation told the local press. He said this is the first time a Dominican team gets so far in world softball.
