The state university suspended classes for two days after about 100 student "leaders" occupied the rector’s office and administrative areas on Friday to protest the increase in the cost of credits from RD$15 to RD$40 for the summer course. The Federacion de Estudiantes Dominicanos leads the protestors. Rector Miguel Rosado said that the students who occupy the university campus will be expelled and he said they are giving them time so they can understand that they are not the authorities of the university. The rector called in the police to protect the university from the unruly students. The vast majority of the students are in favor of paying the credit increase in order.
