Sports fishermen rescue boat people

Sports fishermen and the Dominican Navy helped rescue eight survivors of a shipwrecked 12-foot yawl. The yawl had on board 24 passengers when it capsized off the eastern coast. One man died and 15 are missing. Reportedly the ship left on Friday for Puerto Rico from the Boca de Yuma coast, and capsized on Saturday off the coast of Cabeza de Toro, La Altagracia province. News reports say the ship had capacity for six passengers, and had been stolen from a Cabeza de Toro fisherman for the illegal trip to Puerto Rico. Captain Apolinar Toribio, of the Nancy Jean yacht that was in Cabeza de Toro for a fishing tournament, rescued the eight survivors. Most of the passengers on board the aborted trip to Puerto Rico were from Santiago, San Francisco and Higuey.
