New province about to be created

The Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that would create the 30th province. This would be San José de Ocoa. The province has the municipal districts Rancho Arriba, Sabana Larga and La Ciénaga, presently located in the province of Peravia. The province of San Jose de Ocoa will have a population of 120,000 inhabitants, 40,000 of which are of voting age. It has a territory of 800 square kilometers. The legislation needs to be signed into law by President Leonel Fernández. The creation of a new province does not usually mean more welfare for the inhabitants, but it does mean a lucrative new Senate seat amongst other bureaucratic posts that will need to be created. The province will have two deputies. San José de Ocoa will be the capital of the province.
