The Association of Hotel Owners of Playa Dorada (Puerto Plata) received a Guinness World Record certificate. The Playa Dorada hotels made it into the Guinness Book of Records by preparing the "world’s largest sancocho." The Dominican stew was prepared on 1 January by chefs of the 14-hotel complex. Among the ingredients were 500 lbs. of beef with bone, 450 lbs. of pork, 200 lbs. of pork chops, 450 lbs. of smoked pork chops, 450 lbs. of white yautia, 400 lbs. of yellow yautia, 400 lbs. of squash, 400 green peppers, 200 lbs. of ajies gustosos, 400 lbs. of yucca, 400 units of corn on the cob, 10 lbs. of heads of garlic. Also 50 lbs. of onions, 50 leek, 50 lbs. of celery, 20 packages of cilantro, three gallons of bitter orange juice, salt, four lbs. of pepper, 4 lbs. of oregano, and 1,250 gallons of purified water.
