Civil career law would protect 23% of government employees

The director of the National Office of Planning, Rafael Camilo said that at 23% of the public sector employees cannot be cancelled by the new government without there being a violation of the law. The Ley de Carrera Civil y Administrativa, the law regulating public service employees grants special status to public employees with more than 10 years on the job. To be fired, the government needs to make severance payments. Camilo estimates about 70,000 government employees earned this special status.
