Casa de Campo announces new airport, golf course and marina

Casa de Campo announced the its new airport will by fully operational by 15 December 2000. "With all the private and corporate aircraft coming in and out of the resort, in addition to the daily service from American Airlines and American Eagle, the traffic has simply outgrown the present facility," said Claudio Silvestri, chief executive of the resort. The new OACI/ICAO Class 8 facility will feature a 2,950 meter runway and will be able to accommodate much larger aircraft including wide-body jets. The 7,500 square meter terminal will be air-conditioned and will include commercial space, duty free shops, a cafeteria, bank, ATM machines, a transportation center and VIP lounge. The new La Romana International Airport is located 10 minutes from the main entrance to Casa de Campo. Tourists traveling to resorts in Dominicus and Bayahibe beaches may also consider this airport, which will place them but a 15 minute drive away from their hotels. Casa de Campo also announced the opening of the first nine holes of a fourth golf course in the complex, built by Pete Dye around the Altos de Chavon artist’s village. Moreover, the first phase of its new Marina will also be ready for this winter. The marina is located where the mouth of Chavón River opens into the Caribbean Sea. (10 August 2000)
