The inaugural gourmet affairs

Listín Diario reports on the menus for the official social events planned for VIPs coming on occasion of the inaugural ceremonies of the Hipólito Mejía government. A committee made up by Peggy Cabral, Danny Mendez, Carolina Mejia, Chabela de Grullon and Fantina Sosa is working on the events and has chosen the following: 2 pm Lunch, 16 August. National Palace. Basket of avocados stuffed with shrimp in Caribbean sauce. Lime sorbet. Beef filet with Portobello mushrooms, spinach and pimentos. Santiago eggplant with colored tomatoes. Sweet plantain knots in a cream of cheeses Carrot roses. Mango mousse. Coffee. Reception/dinner at the National Palace. Prepared by Teresa de los Santos for 4,000 invited guests: lunch for the heads of state and Smoked salmon rolls. Shrimp and sesame seed sandwiches. Jam and cheese grilled sandwiches. Chicken and mushroom tarts Esparragus and pimento lady fingers. Lunch offered by then First Lady Rosa de Mejía to the visiting First Ladies at the Caribbean Blue Restaurant in the Colonial City. Martini shrimp backed in cocktail sauce, plantains and heart of palm sauteed in barbecue sauce. Caribbean salad, with Romaine lettuce, chicken, croutons, marinated in lime. Grilled sea bass with yucca pure, beets, cucumbers in guava sauce. Heart of beef filete in fine herbs with heart of palm and sauteed plantain.
