President Leonel Fernández and President-elect Hipólito Mejía met last night from 10:45 pm to 12:45 am at the residence of Monsignor Núñez Collado to discuss key issues. Monsignor Núñez Collado is the rector of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and is known as the country’s leading arbiter. Speaking at the end of the meeting, President Fernández said that they coincided in the need to preserve social peace and economic stability so that Mejía can fulfill his promises and government program that seeks to reduce poverty in the DR. President Fernández said that the leading cause of the present energy problem is the high cost of petroleum.
