Time to party!

The PRD is describing the change of command as "a grandiose event" and a "feast of democracy." The PRD, the largest political party in the DR, is also celebrating its return to the Presidency after 14 years in the opposition. The Listín Diario reports that more than 40,000 people have been invited to be part of the bashes organized by the PRD for the takeover of power. Some 30,000 will attend the Quisqueya Ball Park merengue and fireworks party on 16 August. Another 12,400 persons have been invited to seven simultaneous parties throughout Santo Domingo on the evening of 16 August. On Thursday, 17 August, three parties have been organized for Santiago, the second largest city. For the Quisqueya Ball Park bash, a 15-minute fireworks show is announced, plus the performance of the following bands: Los Toros Band, Rubby Perez, Eddy Herrera, Kinito Mendez, Staff, July Mateo (Rasputin), Luis Vargas, Zacarias Ferreiras and Jose El Calvo. This event is organized by City Mayor Johnny Ventura, one of the leading merengue band leaders of all times. The PRD party organizers will use the same stage left in place by Juan Luis Guerra who just successfully filled to the brim the ballpark for the presentation of his "El Niágara en Bicicleta" concert. Other parties that evening are scheduled for regional divisions of the PRD at the following social clubs and the Jaragua hotel. These are: Casa de España. 1,500 members (South) Club Naco: 1,500 members (East II) Club Los Prados: 2,200 members (West I and II). Club Arroyo Hondo: 2,200 members (Central I and II). Club Casa Verde. 1,500 members (East I). Joseph Casa Club. 2,000 members (North). Hotel Jaragua. 1,500 supporters, but non-party members. Then the party moves on to Santiago, where PRD members will be treated to a National Symphony Orchestra concert at the Gran Teatro del Cibao. Thereafter, President Hipólito Mejía will toast to the success of his presidency at the Gurabito Country Club, Club Amaprosan, and Medical Association Club.
