The National Police intervened to re-establish through traffic at the Haina Occidental Port. Fenatrado truckers’ union attempted to impose a ban on entry to the port of independent truckers and trucks belonging to Maersk-Sealand in order to maintain its monopoly over most of the cargo transported from national ports. This time around, Fenatrado has met with the opposition of the top executives of Maersk-Sealand that have expressed their right to move their own cargo. Fenatrado is defending its "right" as a union to transport at least 50% of Maersk cargo. Fenatrado president Blas Peralta, alleges that the union contributed 400,000 votes to the victory of today President Mejía and has 18,000 members and 10,000 trucks. In an interview with the Listín Diario he said that neither Adolph Hitler, Rafael Trujillo, Joaquín Balaguer nor previous PRD governments could stop Fenatrado. Several business spokesmen, including the president of the National Council of Businesses (CONEP), Celso Marranzini oppose the forceful monopoly-setting tactics of the union that have resulted in high transport rates. A meeting was scheduled for morning, 21 August among government authorities, business representatives, Maersk and Fenatrado.
