Government creates new division to revise contracts

Decree 514/00 of the Mejía administration creates the Unidad de Revisión de Contratos, a department scheduled to start work on Thursday, 24 August. The department is entrusted with the analyzing and revision of contracts signed by the previous government and those to be signed by the present administration. The department can recommend the cancellation of contracts considered damaging to the nation. Legal Consultant to the Executive Branch, Guido Gómez Mazara announced that the government will act against individuals or government officers that signed contracts that are damaging to national interests. He said they will focus on contracts signed by the Ministry of Public Works, Instituto Nacional de Aguas Potables y Alcantarillados, Corporación de Acueductos y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo, Instituto de Recursos Hidraúlicos and the Oficina Supervisora de Obras del Estado. The new unit will issue accreditation’s establishing that there is no objection to the contract and the obligations contained within. The new department is also responsible for studying all contracts that the government will sign with domestic or foreign companies or individuals from here on.
