New apartments for leading athletes

High jumper Juana Arrendel and weight lifters Miosotis Heredia and Wendy Santana finally received their promised apartments. The winners of gold medals in international competitions are thrilled that the governmental promise was at last fulfilled. Miosotis Heredia and Juana Arrendel are neighbors in a new government complex in San Pedro de Macorís, their hometown. Wendy Santana chose to live in the Villa Juana complex in Santo Domingo. The apartments were given to them in the final days of the Fernandez administration, due to the efforts of Felipe Payano, former director of the division of the Ministry of Sports that assists the nation’s top athletes (Parni). The top athletes are very happy, but feel the government should also have come through with its promise of an apartment for their trainer. "He deserves the same as we because without a trainer, there are no athletes," Miosotis Heredia said when interviewed by the Listín Diario.
