Propane gas subsidy program not going smoothly

News reports say that the RD$5 subsidy per gallon of gas purchased in tanks of 25 and 50 lbs has been difficult to apply. News reports say that the subsidy was only being applied to those filling 25 and 15 lbs tanks, as the tickets for those filling 50 lbs tanks had not arrived to the propane gas stations. Furthermore, anyone who uses a 100 lbs tank is not considered "poor." The subsidy is intended to benefit "poor" Dominicans." The measure also seeks to force taxi cars and small businesses to pay the new propane gas price of RD$13 per gallon, and make it more difficult for them to purchase the subsidized propane gas that is intended for use for cooking only. Celso Marranzini, president of the National Council of Businesses (CONEP) forecast that the subsidy would last for only a short time as it is difficult to manage.
