King and Queen of Spain coming in November

The Listin Diario newspaper announces that King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain will visit the Dominican Republic in mid November. The Spanish monarchs make a two-day stopover prior to participating in the Iberoamerican Summit scheduled for Panama City in November of this year. The King and Queen are accepting an invitation made originally by former President Leonel Fernández and made again by President Mejía during his visit to Spain, prior to being sworn in as President. Spanish Ambassador Fermín Prieto-Castro said that during the monarchs’ stay they will meet with expatriate Spaniards and will sign financial cooperation, development, tourism and narcotics assistance agreements. The last official visit of the King and Queen of Spain took place in 1976, when their host was then President Joaquín Balaguer.
