President Hipólito Mejía created an advisory board to assist the Ministry of Education. Decree 664-00 creates the Consejo Externo de la Secretaría de Estado de Educación that will define the educational policies of the DR. Members of the new organization are Padre Ramón Alonso, María Amalia León, Juan Manuel Tavárez, Miguel Escala, Radhamés Mejía, Rafael Toribio, Arelis Rodríguez, Rubén Silié, George Arzeno Brugal, Luís Sánchez Noble, Andrés L. Mateo, Francisco Polanco, Sheila Valera, Fautley Garrido Crouch, Margarita Haché de Yunén and Elías Vargas.
