The Dominican Republic team to Ecochallenge Borneo 2000, the toughest adventure competition of the world, did surprisingly well. The event ended 2 September in Malaysia. The 4 men and one woman delegation became the first from a Caribbean country to finish the event. Mark Burnett, Luis Gonzalez Lefeld, Lorelei Sainz, Alfonso Viego and Ian Gomez finished in 28th position of 76 teams. Only 44 teams finished the 550-kilometer adventure through the jungle of Malaysia. (5 September 2000)
