President Hipólito Mejía travels tomorrow to New York City to participate in the United Nations Summit of the Millennium. He will remain in the US through Saturday, 9 September. He is scheduled to speak at the United Nations on Wednesday, 6 September at 4:30 pm. The speech will be televised to Dominican audiences by Channel 4. During his first official visit to the US as President, he is scheduled to meet with the Dominican community in NY at the Salome School, located in Uptown Manhattan on Tuesday, 5 September. Primarily, during his stay he will have working meetings with other heads of state that will be in New York for the Summit. In addition, on Thursday, 7 September, he is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of Housing, Andrew Cuomo, to sign an important housing agreement. On Friday, President Mejía will have an early morning working session with mining sector businessmen with the participation of Oscar de la Renta and Henry Kissinger at the Hotel Kimberly. Kissinger was a consultant to one of the leading mining firms that participated in the aborted tender of the Rosario Mining, one of the largest gold mines in the Western Hemisphere. President Mejía is also scheduled for a noon luncheon with the Archbishop of New York, Edward M. Egan and 12 priests that work with the Dominican Community at the Catholic Center of New York.
