Emilio Cesar Rivas Rodríguez, the director of the Instituto Postal Dominicano, the state-run post office, told Hoy newspaper that in about two months time they will begin to implement the program to assign postal codes to cities in the DR. He said the program will start with the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. The codes are being assigned in a numeric sequence counterclockwise. Santo Domingo will be divided into five regions. He said the new postal zones will enable correspondence to be delivered regardless of duplicity of names of streets. The postal code is very complete, he said, explaining that it covers all the alleys even those located in densely inhabited neighborhoods. He said the coding should be flexible enough to account for city growth for the next 50 years. Rivas is a law graduate from the Universidad Dominicana O&M in Santo Domingo, who keeps a office and school supply shop and a law firm.
