The Mejía administration announced it is going ahead with the construction of the US$150 million Manabao-Bejucal- Tavera dam in the northcentral Cibao region. The hydroelectric project will have capacity to generate 105 megawatts of electricity per day. The project was started in 1986, but stopped with the change of government that year. The Spanish firm Internacional de Ingeniería y Estudios Técnicos S.A. (Intecsa-Inarsa) and the firm Jorge Mustonen (represented by engineer Marcelo Jorge) will be the contractors, as they won the bid in 1986. The government also announced it will be building the Monción dam, and completing Los Toros dam, and starting the Guaguí dam.
