The commission created by the Mejía administration to oversee the impasse regarding garbage collection in the DR determined that the Central Government pass onto the Municipality of Santo Domingo the garbage collection contract. News reports indicate that the government will transfer to the municipality the RD$10 million monthly payment, so that the city government can pay the corresponding garbage collecting companies and be responsible for supervising their operations. Several companies participate in garbage collecting in Santo Domingo. The government has contracts with Proaseo, Colimec, Urbaser, Klinitec, and Dragados. Mayor Johnny Ventura said that his office will coordinate the routes, schedules and frequencies for garbage collecting.
