Senate breaks to wait to meet with President Mejía

The Senate decided to suspend sessions until it met with President Mejía. The PRD party that brought Mejía to the Presidency is majority in the Senate. Hoy newspaper says that there were differences among senators over the passing of US$400 million in loans pending in the Senate. Also high on the agenda is the increasing of the ITBIs, the value-added sales tax, that would compensate tax income that will decrease once the tariff reform is approved. This reform is necessary for the congressional passing of the Caribbean and Central American free trade agreements. President Mejía has scheduled a meeting with PRD congressmen at the National Palace on Friday.
