Occidental Hoteles finalized the purchase of Allegro Resorts. The Spanish hotel chain reportedly paid US$455.2 million for the 22 hotels (6,300 rooms) that Allegro operates in 10 countries. Occidental is now the largest hotel operator in the Caribbean. The company has worldwide 85 hotels, 20,390 rooms in 54 destinations in Europe, America and Africa. In the DR, Occidental Hotels manages the Embajador (Santo Domingo; Playa Real (Juan Dolio), Playa Dorada and Flamenco Beach (Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata); La Esplanada (Sosua, Puerto Plata), Flamenco Bávaro (Bávaro), Gran Bahía, Cayacoa and Cayo Levantado (Samaná). Allegro Resort operates Jack Tar Village and Club on the Green (Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata), Playa Grande (Playa Grande-María Trinidad Sánchez), and Allegro Resort Bávaro (Bávaro). (14 September 2000)
