The US government announced a donation of RD$222.6 million to support a five-year plan, RedSalud, to decentralize the public health system and fight AIDS. The Dominican government will be disbursing counterpart funds for RD$74.2 million. The announcement was made at the Coral Hamaca Hotel yesterday by Deputy Minister of Public Health Eusebio Garrido and USAID director, Elena Brineman. Also present were Jesus Feris Iglesias, president of the Advisory Board for the Reform of the Public Health Sector; Jose Lois Malkum, executive coordinator of the Commission for the Reform of Public Health Sector; and George Laudato, vice president of ABT Associates, the company that will implement the project.
