A report in Hoy newspaper says that the number of trauma cases assisted at the Darío Contreras trauma center in Santo Domingo is a clear indication that violence is up in the DR. According to the article, from 12 January to September, 14,156 patients have been hospitalized for fights. Knife and gun fight injuries accounted for 1,143 of the cases. Traffic accident cases assisted at the hospital numbered 6,224 cases, most involving motorcycle drivers. The hospital stats show that the accidents increase on weekends, holidays and late at night.
