Cibao Meat Products chose to exhibit in the DR its Induveca and Don Pedro brands. The company registered the brands some 10 years ago in the US, seeking to attract Dominican consumers in NY and piggyback on the preferences of ethnic consumers for the local brands. Induveca and Don Pedro brands are leading Dominican brands that maintain a legal debate over the right of Cibao Meat Products to use their brand names. Lawyers of Industrias Veganas appealed to the District Attorney and the Department of Intellectual Property who ordered Cibao Meat Products to not exhibit their products. Heinz Vieluf of Cibao Meat Products said that he had been invited by the Department of Agriculture to the exhibition and that his product was inspected by the government of the US and had been imported from the US. Cibao Meat Products has held conversations with Induveca to settle the trademark registration dispute.
