A tropical wave that crossed over the DR brought heavy rains, wind gusts and flooding. The US weather forecasters explain that it is the remnant of Tropical Depression 12 and is becoming better organized, thus is of concern to Caribbean islands west of the island of the island of Hispaniola (DR + Haiti). The wave is moving west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph. As usual when heavy rains fall, the streets of Santo Domingo flooded, affecting city activities. Only 10% of the streets in the capital city have adequate drainage. News reports say that the Las Americas tunnel drainage system proved to be effective, which is good news for that area. Rainfalls measured 126 millimeters in Rancho Arriba, San José de Ocoa, in the 90s in Juma, Bonao and Constanza, and in the 70s in Higuey in the East. Weather services say there is nothing developing that could threaten the DR through Wednesday. For more information on what’s coming for the Caribbean, see http://www.dr1.com/daily/hurricane.shtml
