The Mejía government has announced it is continuing the computerized land ownership registration program started by the previous administration. The program will cost US$9.5 million and a pilot program is being implemented in Santo Domingo. Spanish companies Cinsa and Ingeniería AIE are assisting the Dirección General de Catastro in the registration of 150,000 property titles in the National District (Santo Domingo). Hector Perez Mirambeaux, director of the department, made the announcement pointing out that once computerized by April 2002, a title search will only take minutes versus the days it takes to make a manual search today.
