Seaboard says its power plants fill international regulations

Seaboard says that the operations of its power plants follow international environmental regulations. Emilio Bisonó, a technical advisor of the company, replied to an item in the Listín Diario whereby residents in an area neighborhood had complained of pollution caused by the power plant that is docked in the Ozama River. The plant produces 42 megawatts. A new Seaboard power plant barge will soon start generating another 72 megawatts, and will be docked besides the first plant. Bisonó said that the neighbors cannot scientifically substantiate their claims. He said that the chimney of the plant only issues black smoke when the plant is started, which occurs only occasionally as the plant operates continuously. The article in the Listín Diario featured a photograph showing dark fumes coming from the plant’s chimney.
