A British registry petroleum tanker reportedly rescued 14 fishermen that were on board the shipwrecked Cristal fishing boat that sunk about 6 miles from the Tortuga Island, of Haiti. The boat suffered motor failures when caught in a storm. The Paul fishing boat, property of the same owner was towing it, when the rope broke and the boat sank. News report indicate that the ship’s captain could not make a detour to bring the rescued fishermen to the DR, and would take them along to England where it was headed. Six other fishermen were rescued earlier, after having made it to Isla Tortuga. The fishermen left Manzanillo port, on the northwestern coast of the DR, on 12 September. Thirty-three fishermen were on board. News reports say that another nine survivors made it to Cap Haitien.
