The El Caribe newspaper reports there is a contraction in the growth of the construction sector that had boomed in recent years. Engineer Cristian Ciccone, vice president of the Dominican Chamber of Construction says that the construction industry is practically paralyzed. He attributed this to the stoppage of government construction works due to the change of government. He said the private sector is affected by the high interest rates, the decline in money in circulation, increases in construction materials and the continued rains that have fallen in September.
