Training the coaches

Minister of Sports Cesar Cedeño opened the first National Coaches School. A first promotion of 60 coaches began their studies at the La Romana school. Cedeño, himself a native of La Romana, said that trainers will be prepared in volleyball, basketball, weight-lifting, swimming, tae kwon do, boxing, baseball, gymnastics, wrestling, soccer and track and field. The programs last a year and are coordinated by professors Radhamés Tavarez and Máximo Cueto. The idea is to prepare the coaches the country will need to prepare the athletes of the future that will compete in the annual national student games, the biannual national sports games (Monte Plata) and the Pan Am Games of 2003.
