The School of Diplomacy and International Affairs of Seton Hall University awarded President Leonel Fernandez a Doctor Honoris Causa. Monsignor Robert Sheeran in the keynote speech praised the former Dominican statesmen for his contributions in favor of progress and democracy in the DR. He said this is the first honor of its kind awarded to a former President. The event was part of Dominican Week in USA celebrations (http://www.rvhb.com/dominican.htm). At the event, President Fernández spoke of the importance of the DR advancing from an economy based on labor intensive labor and low wages to one based on knowledge industries. Former President Fernández has also received distinctions from Harvard University, the Sorbonne University in Paris and the UNPHU in Santo Domingo.
