The Ministry of Armed Forces announced the definite closing of the Fortaleza General Antonio Duvergé as a military barracks, jail and weapon storage compound. General Soto Jiménez announced the compound would now house a vocational school for both civilians and the military. On Tuesday, a weapons arsenal adjacent to the barracks exploded, causing the death of one person and injuries to another 40 as well as millionaire damages to property in the densely populated area. The Ministry of Armed Forces says that preventive measures have been taken so that another explosion does not affect one of the other 13 arsenals maintained in the DR.
