Go ahead for the Santo Domingo Cyberpark

The Mejía advanced a first RD$20 million payment of a US$3 million committed by the Government of Taiwan to support the Santo Domingo Cyberpark. Secretary of the Presidency Sergio Grullón announced that President Hipólito Mejía himself is now on the board of the high-technology complex that was the pet project of former President Leonel Fernández. Former Minister of Industry & Commerce, Luis Manuel Bonetti presides the Cyberpark board. The free zone expects to start operations in January 2001 with Paragon Corporation being its first client. While during the campaign Mejía made fun of Fernández’s efforts to promote technology in the DR, now as President he has embraced these efforts.
