President Mejía meets with former President Fernández

President Hipólito Mejía met last night with former President Leonel Fernández at the home of businessman Ramón Báez Figueroa. Báez is the chief executive of the Listín Diario and El Siglo newspapers and of the Banco Intercontinental, one of the largest banks in the DR. The meeting was held at a time bankers are insisting on the need for the government to reduce spending in order to remove excessive monetary restrictions that are said to be leading the country to a recession. President Mejía said that the talks with the former President were primarily about the pending economic reforms. These were proposed by Fernández in his government, but have not been passed by the PRD-majority Congress. Ramon Báez is a neighbor of President Fernández. They both live in the Diandy XVIII building of the Av. Mexico near Tiradentes.
