El Siglo newspaper and the Grupo León Jimenes have joined efforts to make available a list of hardcover classics at very reasonable prices. The books were printed in Spain. The books will be sold to the general public at RD$75 each, but will be available to El Siglo subscribers for even less, RD$50 the book. The new program that seeks to promote reading will start 24 October. The first book of the collection is "El Señor Presidente," by Guatemalan Nobel Peace Prize award winner, Miguel Angel Asturias. Many more books will follow by Dominican authors and renown writers: Victor Hugo, Cervantes, Truman Capote, Goethe, Thomas Mann, Italo Calvino, Gabriel García Marquez, William Faulkner, William Shakespeare, Pablo Neruda, Dostoievsky, Anthony Burgess, among others.
