Mejía not keen on signing with IMF

President Hipólito Mejía said that he does not foresee the government signing an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. He believes that the Dominican economy, while critical, is manageable. "I am not in that [signing with the IMF]. I say, if it is necessary it will be done, but I do not think we have the need," he told Hoy newspaper. With the statement, he was addressing a commentary made by the president of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), Hatuey Decamps who had said that the Central Bank has requested an IMF loan.
