Police arrests all at San Pedro precinct

The Police announced the arrest of the agents on service at an unidentified San Pedro de Macorís police precinct. Spokesman for the police, Colonel Nelson Rosario said that the case of rape and extortion of a French businessman would be thoroughly investigated and the culprits would be expelled and sent to trial. French businessman Thierry Deve denounced he was extorted and raped by police at the precinct. Deve, owner of the Restaurant Pam Pam in Juan Dolio took his case to the French Embassy which advised him to visit the forensic expert of the San Pedro de Macorís district to obtain a certificate confirming what had happened to him. He also was advised to take his case to the press. He did both, despite the embarrassment it brought him, seeking that the culprits do not go free, and that the same never happen to anyone else. Deve told the press he was extorted to pay RD$15,000, of which he paid RD$5,000, and then was raped at gunpoint in a bathroom of the precinct by one of the agents on duty. This occurred, Saturday, 7 October after he was involved in a car accident with a rented car. Deve said that the police agents had threatened to kill him if they heard he had told what had happened to him.
