Local company included in Forbes Magazine list

Forbes Magazine has listed the Dominican telephone insurgent, Tricom, among the world?s 300 leading small cap companies. Tricom, the first and only company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, was placed by Forbes in the list of 20 with the greatest growth potential in the next twelve months. Founded in 1992, Tricom first built a wedge for itself against the country?s telephone Goliath, Codetel, and went on to become a serious challenger to its monopoly. Founded by local financial conglomerate, Grupo Financiero Nacional, Tricom is the only all-digital system in the region and has expanded its operations to other Caribbean locations, most recently Puerto Rico. Last week, 26.5% of Tricom shares were divested by Motorola Corporation and were acquired by Telefonica of Spain. ?Small cap? is Wall Street parlance for companies capitalized at under US$500,000,000.
