A renowned humorist and philanthropist believes that President Hipolito Mejia ought to be more sparing in his access to the press. In an interview with Hoy, Freddy Beras Goico, stated that the President ought to limit his public expression, and to be careful of what he says. Beras Goico, who for a quarter century has hosted, ?Gordo de la Semana,? the country?s most faithfully watched variety show, does not want to see Mejia loose his spontaneity. However, his view is that he needs ?to dose out? his appearances. Beras Goico asserted that people pay journalists to ask provocative questions of presidents. For this reason, he said, former President Joaquin Balaguer stopped holding press conferences. ?I believe that President Mejia will have to do the same thing after the first few months of his government,? said Beras Goico, adding, ?he needs to be more careful in ?his public utterances and responses? without ?betraying his own temperament.? In the same interview, Beras Goico said that he had told the late Jose Francisco Pe?a Gomez, whom he described as ?a friend,? that he was not temperamentally suited to be president because ?he cried so easily? and reacted too emotionally in every situation.
