The CEO of one of the nation?s largest corporations is opposed to the new tax proposals being advocated by the government. Jose Leon Asencio, CEO of the A. Leon Jimenez Group, believes that a more efficient use of current public funds is preferable to the imposition of new taxes that will thwart corporate growth. Any such limitation would place the nation at risk, he said. Writing in his company?s in-house publication, ?El Leoncito,? Leon argues that before proposing reform of the nation?s current economic model, officials ought to make more efficient use of the government?s income, and to pull the net tighter around those who do not contribute their fair share under the current tax system. The E. Leon Jimenez group is the country?s largest single taxpayer. It manufactures beer and tobacco products, and holds the franchise for Marlboro Cigarettes.
