The U.S. Deputy Trade Representative, Richard Fisher, visited with President Hipolito Mejia last night to discuss what Fisher regards as deficiencies in the Dominican law of Protection of Intellectual Property. The U.S. Ambassador, Charles Manatt, also attended the meeting, which took place in Mejia?s home. Fisher said that technical experts on intellectual property from both countries would meet soon to examine ways in which the current law, approved in the waning days of the Fernandez administration, might be strengthened. He added that as president-elect, Mejia had requested the help of U.S. experts to consider ways in which the protection of intellectual property might be used to assure the continuation of foreign investment in the country.
