The Mejia government seeks to silence PLD criticisms of the new fiscal measures it is proposing by trying to harass officials of the previous government, and ?soil their reputations.? Jose Tomas Perez, Executive Secretary of PLD said that its PRD opponents think that ?they can get us to abandon our defense of the interests of the country?s poor people, with threats and accusations,? adding that ?no one will muzzle this organization.? In addition to charges of ?corruption? leveled against Alexandrina German, the former head of the National Lottery, Francisco Javier Garcia, and the former head of the Program of Evaluation of Minimum Employment, Luis Ynchausti have been accused. Mejia administration officials keep hinting that others will be cited, and yesterday, the Legal Counsel to the President, Guido Gomez Masara, announced that President Mejia has been sent the indictments containing ?irrefutable proofs? of complicity in acts of corruption by former officials.
