As promised by Interior and Police Minister, Rafael Subervi Bonilla, Ministry officials and uniformed police embarked on the task of closing 36 private security firms that were reported to be tax delinquents. The mission ran into unexpected difficulties when none of the companies on the list could be located at the addresses that had been provided. A van full of officials, followed by a truckload of police offers, followed by the vehicles carrying members of the press, spent a frustrating morning in pursuit of the phantom security firms. Finally, after three frustrating hours, the contingent arrived at the offices of ?Guardianes Maximo de Seguridad,? located at 33 Eugenio Deschamps Street in the Los Prados sector. However, personnel of the company were able to provide documentation that that their taxes were up-to-date. Undaunted, the search for security companies continued through various neighborhoods of Santo Domingo, but with the same negative results. After 3:00 p.m., the quest was abandoned to await another day with better information. Minister Subervi Bonilla was reported to be in San Francisco de Macoris, and unavailable for comment.
