A Santo Domingo businessman, Pedro Rafael Melo Matos was awarded DR$20 million (around US$1.212 million) as winner of the Electronic International Lottery Company?s recent Lotto drawing. However, he sent his lawyer and a representative of the bank where the money will be deposited, to appear before cameras and claim it. The lawyer, Miguel Angel Soto Jimenez, said that Melo Metos chose not to appear in person ?for reasons of security.? His lawyer described the winner as ?upper middle class, simple and nervous.?
