A front page article in this morning?s El Siglo revealed that the staff of the Organizing Committee for the Pan American Games, scheduled to be held in Santo Domingo, in 2003, has an annual payroll of almost DR$9.6 million (over US$580,000). Among the salaries being paid to the committee?s 36 permanent employees are; the Administrative Director, Bienvenido Brito, (DR$50,000 a month), the Press Director, Roosevelt Comarazami, (DR$45,000), the Director of Volunteers, Milton Pineydo Soriano, (DR$45,000), the Director General, Bienvenido Solano, (DR$30,000), the Technical Director, Nelly Manuel Do?e, (DR$25,000), and the Planning Coordinator, Daniel Lara, (DR$25,000). El Siglo went on to list all the names on the payroll and amounts they receive, down to the messengers, but offered no comment as to the significance of the Games? salaries which, it says, total DR$797,150 monthly. The Dominican government is expected to budget DR$365 million in the new fiscal year to plan and prepare for the Games.
