Less than twenty-four hours after the revelation that staff of the Pan American Games Organizing Committee has a monthly payroll in excess of three quarters of a million pesos the President of the Republic ordered a "readjustment. It was only yesterday, El Siglo had published a list of the committee,s 36 employees and their salaries. The head of the Pan Am committee, Jose Joaquin Puello justified the high salaries being paid to top management saying that the committee is a non-profit organization which provides no expenses, or per diems, and few fringe benefits, and the staff works long days without fixed hours. Puello noted that capable managers lured to work for NGO,s need to be well compensated for time out from their careers in the private sector. Sports Minister Cesar Cedeõo said that the adjustments would be made next week.
