The Superintendent of Electricity Jose Ovalles requested the assistance of the Police to arrest persons that are found disconnecting or dismantling public lighting. In a letter to the chief of the Police, the Superintendence urges that "whoever is found disconnecting or dismantling public lighting without the authorization of the CDE or this Superintendence, no matter whether it is a public or private company, be arrested." Listín Diario says that sources indicate that the Superintendence is requesting the assistance of the Police after being alerted that power-distributing companies are disconnecting the streetlights to reduce their operation costs. The Police action is urged against individuals that illegally connect to the system.
