President Hipólito Mejía announced the creation of a special award, Premio Hermanas Mirabal to honor the exceptional work of women in the DR. The award winner will be announced every year on 25 November. The jury is made up by Carmen Rita Morera, Emilio Cordero Michel, Carmen Imbert Brugal, Jose E. Delmonte Peguero, Violeta Martínez, Ligia Minaya, Mu-Kien San Beng and Sonia Guzmán de Hernández.
